Students must be able to be admitted to the school of their choice after selecting educational institutions approved by the Immigration and Education Program in Canada.
Are you eligible?
Given that the exact conditions and steps of admission vary from institution to institution, it is best to consider the following factors when preparing an application. However, it is necessary to note that prospective students wishing to receive admission to education in Canada must first apply for a degree program at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
Language Required
The two official languages of Canada are English and French. To be eligible for an academic program, most English-language schools may require students for whom English is not the first language to pass a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). You can enroll in an ESL School (English as a Second Language) for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL). French-speaking institutions may request a valid French test or have different assessment methods for the language.
Input Requirements
There are no entrance exams across Canada for post-secondary education programs. Each of the educational institutions approved by the Immigration Office sets its admission standards and assesses the qualifications of each applicant individually. Applicants must also prove that they are eligible for educational admission conditions.
Application Deadline
Application deadlines vary from school to school, and some schools only apply at certain times of the year. After submitting your application for admission, it may take four to six months for you to receive a response from the institution. On behalf of the school, it is necessary to ensure that the applicant has sufficient time to obtain a Study Permit and travel to Canada before the start of the training program. So you have to submit your application before the start date of a study program.
The Academic Year of Educational Institutions
The school year typically runs from September to May. Some schools have a quarterly semester-length, and all courses are available even in the summer. Other educational institutions approved by the Swedish Migration Board may offer a more limited choice of fields and schedules during the summer months, and enrollment in summer courses is often optional. Some majors are also submitted in January by some institutions.
Studying English or French as a Second Language
Students studying as a second language at a private Canadian, French or English institution can attest that the program is of good quality on the Languages Canada website. The organization provides a qualitative evaluation of language schools across Canada and a list of approved programs and members.
Identifying Educational Institutions approved by the Immigration Office or Educational Programs
In Canada, provincial and regional governments are responsible for education, and colleges and universities have the right to award degrees under approved regional laws. Before applying to immigration-approved educational institutions, students should consider whether the institution is a DLI. For a complete list of all DLIs based on the province, it is best to refer to the list of educational institutions approved by the Immigration Office.
Distance Education of Educational Institutions approved by the Immigration Office
Those who cannot go to Canada to study at one of the educational institutions approved by the Immigration Office of Graduate Studies can use the online programs offered by Canadian universities and colleges. Upon completion of these courses, students can travel to Canada to participate in the second or third year of an institution’s educational programs.
Financial Assistance
Those who need financial assistance to pay for their studies in Canada can contact their country of citizenship as soon as possible, as they may receive scholarships, low-interest loans, or other eligible benefits. In addition, the Office of Immigration-approved financial aid of the educational institution you wish to attend may be in a position to provide financial assistance to the student. Some institutions may also be able to make financing options available to students. If students intend to transfer the rest of their credits to another educational institution, they should contact the destination university or college; because each educational institution approved by the Immigration Office has its policy on transfer credits.
Contacting the Educational Institution
Once students have chosen a Canadian university or college, they can visit the institution’s website or contact the admissions office to find out how to apply. Many institutions apply for admission electronically and online. The applicant may receive a letter requesting educational acceptance within four to six months of the application deadline. Selected applicants will receive a letter of acceptance by which they can apply for a Canadian study permit.
