In most cases, students wishing to study at a Canadian post-secondary institution must submit an Acceptance Letter from an immigration-approved educational institution when applying for a Canadian study permit. Applicants must provide (Designated Learning Institutions) DLI numbers for their chosen schools. The DLI number is a number that begins with the letter “O” on the application form. In the following cases, they exempt the students from submitting a DLI letter or DLI number with their application:
- Students attending a designated Elementary or High School; these special schools are designated automatically, and no number is assigned to them by the DLI.
- Foreign Nationals who have received Applications for a Work Permit or Educational Admission Permit in Writing before Arrival in Canada, under these Conditions, may be able to obtain a free Admission Permit.
- Some Institutions designated by the provincial government in Quebec do not require a DLI Number.
- If a person submits a Study Application with an Acceptance Letter from a non-DLI Institution, they will reject the Application for a Study Permit.
- If a Person has submitted a Study Application with an Acceptance Letter from the DLI, but the Institution loses its Status, the Student will have two options:
1- Returning the request.
2- Sending Acceptance Letters to another DLI.
